We help non-profit organizations (NPO’s) respond to computer crime . . .
- Ransomware and cyber extortion
- Business email compromise (BEC)
- Payment fraud
- Website defacement
- Social media account hijacking
Computer crime hurts everyone, but it can be especially harmful to charities and other non-profits . . . and most importantly, the special people they serve. We help non-profits respond to and recover from malicious cybercrime incidents. In most cases, our assistance to non-profits that don’t have insurance coverage, is free of charge.
We know first-hand that a malicious computer crime can irreparably damage a non-profit’s ability to provide important services. Not only can it expose confidential and sensitive personal information on the people the organization is trying to serve and disrupt crucial services, but it can also intimidate volunteers, dissuade supporters and curtail funding sources.
We strongly support and encourage non-profits to follow best practices to prevent a cyber incident in the first place, and there are lots of free and discounted resources to proactively secure their networks. But we recognize that even the most cyber mature entities can become victims. Threat actors have little concern for the damage they cause or the negative impact it can have on the people served.
Law enforcement’s mission is to catch criminals and curtail future criminal activity. But they do not help victims respond to and recover from a cybercrime. That is outside their scope. Just as a fire department doesn’t rebuild a home after a fire, law enforcement can’t help victims prioritize remediation efforts, manage stakeholder communications, or recover crucial data.
Our team has addressed over a thousand computer events for government agencies, insurers and law firms throughout the United States. Over the years we’ve been moved by the many non-profits that have been cybercrime victims, but lacked the resources (money, insurance) to get access to competent advisors and guidance to minimize the impact and return to fulfilling their mission statement.
For obvious reasons, we don’t post names of clients or other details. However, we encourage impacted organizations and their legal counsel to call NPOhelp.org (24×7) at 202-945-9900 to discuss your specific situation. Already working with law enforcement? We can include them on the call as well.
We can help you immediately start to layout a plan to address current concerns, as well as the issues you’ll need to deal with in the days, weeks and even months ahead. We can also pull together a wide range of resources including data privacy legal counsel, crisis communications and IT experts to help, as well as provide guidance to your staff, board members and other stakeholders.
